Workout World launches 1300 WORKOUT phone name
Australian owned fitness equipment specialist Workout World has announced a new national customer phone number, 1300 WORKOUT (1300 9675 688), giving Australians fast and easy access to its national network of fitness equipment stores.
The 1300 WORKOUT phone word is being given the green light for the first time from Saturday November 1. All new marketing, advertising and public relations collateral will feature the new phone word, including direct response TV advertising, Workout World store signage, print advertising, customer website, media releases and corporate communications materials.
The implementation of a tailored phone number for Workout World's 35 stores nationally represents a significant step forward for the company, making it even simpler for customers to find their nearest Workout World store, according to Workout World marketing manager Mark Garrahy.
"Workout World is energised to be embracing the 'phone word' trend which is emerging as one of the most logical and easy ways for customers to reach companies of their choice," Mark says.
A recent Roy Morgan survey (May 2008) showed that a large majority of Australians are aware of the phone names concept (93%). Roy Morgan research also indicated that usage of phone names – the number of people that have dialled a phone name – has increased dramatically (by 88%) since it was last measured in 2006. Phone words were originally introduced in the US more than 30 years ago and now over 77% of US advertisements incorporate them.
Workout World's existing phone number, 1300 553 273, will be connected indefinitely while residual marketing collateral remains in the market.

What is a phone word?
Phone words are freephone (1800 numbers) and local rate (13 or 1300 numbers) that are allocated through an online auction system by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) on behalf of the government. A phone word can be a highly memorable marketing tool: a caller dials a phone word by pressing the letters on a telephone keypad. Phone words are easier for callers to remember, particularly when they are linked to an organisation's name or function.
